Artist's Comments

Dress I made as part of my final project at uni. It is made out of 150 unwanted CDs and quite a few broken CDs cases too.

Please ignore grubby college background and unexciting mannequin (I really should make friends with more tall attractive women).

Is that *it* or is the rest of it black so it vanishes against the mannequin? Only asking because it looks like it would require some serious taping to get everything to stay put, if you see what I mean :-o Though I guess you could wear something underneath if you were a wimp like me ;) It's a fabulously elegant design and gloriously shiny - impractical but wonderful! The swirly skirt part with the overlappping CD "scales" makes me think of a mermaid's tail.

i am not really a person who can comment on clothing as I cannot give any sort of real critque but my word that is a stunning piece. I love the almost waterfall look to it as it flows down and glitters and the materials, I love people using materals that aren't ment for that purpose to an exicintg finish and this is a rather exciting finish!! The shape, the material and the comment about making taller friends all adds up to a stunning piece :D well done, am very impressed :D

Oh yes, I can see where Hollywood tape would make it's living on THIS dress! Serious need.

But it's absolutely beatiful and so unique! I'd love to see it on someone!

That is really, really cool. did anyone acctually wear it? again, the whole failing off question comes to mind. I assume it is not entirly CDs but some fabric as well? but seriously, if thats just a part of a final project the complete project must have been pretty formidable.

I'd be really curious to see how the CD-encrusted part moves as a person moves :-P It's absolutely lovely, though!

That is a lovely couture piece, my friend. I really enjoy the balance you've created between the sweep of the hem and the standup collar. Like ~disjointedreverie said, I would love to see how it moves on a body. Simply spectacular. I would love to see a full show ensemble for this dress someday. ;)

Absolutely stunning hun, where did the inspiration for this come from!? hoping to get some pics on here of my couture pieces but this is truly amazing, congrats. What fabric did you use for the actual dress?

regret the things you do not the things you dont!!

like taylra said, this reminds me of mermaids tail, but the design and idea is just awesome! the overlapping of the cds creating an almost scaled look, and then the sort of fluffy top half is simply stunning! i love the collar, i'm sort of suprised that would hold the dress up as it looks heavy.
awesome concept, and awesome out come! :+fav:!
